The HL7 Integration Process

HL7 EMR Integration and EHR integration are highly systematic processes. We first perform an HL7 interface analysis. In this analysis, we analyze and determine your HL7 requirements, and what the HL7 specifications need to be. Then we move on to the next phase and develop message prototypes. Finally, we perform HL7 interface testing and validate these prototypes in a testing environment. After we analyze and ensure the security of the network architecture, we then conduct HL7 development planning and finally move on to the development phase.

Maximize Interoperability with HL7 Interface Development

We leverage HL7 interface standards to synchronize healthcare information technology, Practice Management Systems (PMS), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and also billing software.

We do this by building enterprise-wide system interface engines to help standardize communication between different applications and programs in healthcare, including hospitals, labs, clinics, and imaging centers. We also use HL7 interface engines that leverage healthcare integration APIs to facilitate communication and sharing of healthcare data within doctors and healthcare providers throughout the world.

We also offer customizations to allow the patient health data to be reused between applications, minimize the import and export endpoints, and be able to observe and monitor entire systems at a single time. The customizations can be, for instance adding segments to existing HL7 file format and message types, defining new message types, changing potential values in existing message segments, and altering the data type of existing message parts.

Hassle-free HL7
Implementation for

Take advantage of our tried and tested HL7 Integration solutions which can be customized to your requirements. We offer you a quick and hassle-free HL7 implementation for third-party integrations which lets you focus on what you know best while not worrying about implementation issues.

We use HAPI, which is an HL7 API often regarded as the gold standard implementation of HL7, to implement a robust, scalable, and lightweight service that connects seamlessly with each hospital site’s EMR/EHR system.

Our years of experience and expertise allows us to process, parse, and transform many HL7 messages such as ADT (Admit Discharge Transfer), SRM (Schedule Request Message), SIU (Schedule Information Unsolicited), PV1 (Patient Visit Information), ORU (Observational Report Unsolicited), MDM (Medical Document Management), and ORM (Order Request Message), before they reach their destination.

Elevate Communication with HL7 Messaging

Elevate the power of communication and connectivity with HL7 messaging and witness the effect of simplifying communication. We offer a secure HL7 messaging integration framework using powerful HL7 interface engines, which help take communication between applications to the next level. We also offer HL7 viewer programming with the help of our experienced HL7 developers, who work on building custom desktop and mobile applications for viewing, filtering, editing, and parsing of HL7 messages.

Our HL7 integration design and development team ensures HL7 compliance along with the security of your communication network architecture. This includes the validation of different message formats in data exchange codes and our team also helps improve interoperability between applications and platforms with other standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

HL7 of Health level 7 is a medical messaging standard meant to enable easy exchange of data between clinical applications. The HL7 committee has developed clinical standards and message formats to provide a framework for data exchange in the medical industry.

While HL7 isn’t an API, the committee has created an FHIR, which technically is meant for API data exchange.

HL7 stands for Health Level 7, which refers to the international standards used in the medical industry for data exchange between different healthcare providers or clinical applications. The standards are meant to minimize the gap between various IT applications used in the healthcare industry and enable easy and efficient sharing of data between multiple applications or healthcare providers with the ultimate aim to improve the quality of healthcare services.

The HL7 committee does publishes a Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), which in essence is a set of XML-based standards meant to identify the semantics, encoding, and structure of the clinical documents for exchange.

What are the different types of hl7 messages?

  • ADT – Used for patient’s admission, discharge, or transfer
  • ACK – Used for general acknowledgment
  • BAR – Used for the addition of change of billing account
  • MDM– Used for medical document management
  • DFT – Used for detailed financial transaction
  • ORM – Used for Order (mainly for the purpose of treatment or pharmacy)
  • MFN – Used for master files notification
  • QRY – Used for query and original mode
  • ORU – Used for observation result unsolicited
  • RAS – Used for pharmacy or treatment administration
  • RGV – Used for pharmacy or treatment giving
  • RDE – Used for pharmacy or treatment encoded order

FHIR offers an application programming interface (API) that enables patients to easily determine various things like eligibility for insurance, preventative care visits, outstanding claims, and others through easy iOS apps. The patients can also pull out clinical charts from any medical organizations to which iOS and CMS are connected.

In the case of HL7, there is no app and you can download nothing. To be able to connect the HL7 interfaces from the system, professional programmers would need to write coding and then, the interfaces would have to be supported to maintain their integrity.

Unfortunately, despite carrying some of the most private health information, the HL7 lacks any built-in security including message verification, security controls, or encryption.
